A Winter Piece

'A Winter Piece' commissined for the Meteorological Office, Uk, was launched at Roadford Reservoir, Devon, England in February 2004

These photographs show how sensitively the artwork responded to the changing wind and light conditions within a single early morning hour

The reflection mirroring the artworks exposed 'blades' gives a echoing illusion of its actual underwater form.

The sculpture is 12ft (366cm)heigh with a diameter of 3ft 8 inches(114cm) at its waterline. It is hand carved from Sitka Spruce, a wood chosen specifically for its glowing colouration, strength and highly buoyant properties. The six blades radiate from a central fibreglass core.

A Winter piece was commissioned by The Devon Guild of Craftsmen, England, For the UK's Met office and is part of the major touring exhibition Elemental Insight. This work has been purchased by the Met Office and forms part of their permanent Art collection.
